This summer I will be working at Liberia's Ministry of Gender and Development, thanks to the very generous support of the Nancy Germeshausen Klavans Cultural Bridge Fellowship. (This Fellowship is coordinated through Harvard's Women and Public Policy Program.)
As part of this Fellowship, all Fellows keep weekly blogs on experiences throughout the summer. This is an opportunity to keep a record of our summer experiences and to share with the world the fascinating people, work, and culture we encounter.
The Fellows had our first meeting last week, and it was exciting to hear where everyone was headed: India, Burundi, Nepal, Jordan, Bangladesh... and even three of us to Liberia! Our job descriptions are quite diverse, but the common bond among us is that we will be working on issues related to women, public policy, gender, and leadership -- often in a post-conflict setting.
Please join me this summer as I blog about my life and work in Liberia. I will try to share my most honest accounts of what I see and do. Feel free to post comments or ask questions. My access to internet and electricity will be sporadic, but I will do my best. This is my first blogging experience, and I look forward to sharing it with you!

Dear Laura,
As always I am amazed at your courage and tenacity. We thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the world through you during your stay in Africa and will enjoy doing so again as you experience Liberia. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you as you embrace yet another amazing journey. We have a young intern from Korea living with us and she is already fascinated by the tid-bits about you we have shared. I am sure she too will delight in witnessing your journey.
Best wishes! Love, Suzanne Ferrari and Family
